STV for West London
This sub-region also sends 10 MPs to parliament, but the arrangement of the boroughs means I can have two STV constituencies of 5 each.
There are some differences between Borough and current FPTP constituency boundaries, and as usual I am using the Constituency boundaries even while using the Borough names.
Ealing and Hounslow (To elect 5 MPs covering the constituencies of Brentford and Isleworth; Ealing Central and Acton; Ealing North; Ealing Southall; Feltham and Heston).
Harrow and Hillingdon (To elect 5 MPs covering the constituencies of Harrow East; Harrow West; Hayes and Harlington; Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner; Uxbridge and South Ruislip).
Geography
I thought I’d paired these Boroughs up as they are for the London Assembly, but I’ve just checked and those pairings are different. I stand by my pairings because Harrow and Hillingdon do share one current constituency. Apart from the inclusion a small part of Brent Borough around Queensbury that included in Harrow East (and so also here), my Harrow and Hillingdon is the area covered by the two boroughs.
Ealing and Hounslow is a little more complicated in terms of Borough boundary crossing. As mentioned on the last post, Whitton is included, even though its in the borough of Richmond.
At it’s East End, my Ealing and Hounslow STV has two differences due the current FPTP boundaries. Chiswick (part of Hounslow Borough) is NOT included (because its on Hammersmith Constituency), but East Acton is (even though it’s in Hammersmith Borough)
Politics
Ealing and Hounslow is now an area painted Red with the Labour vote touching 50%. Out of the 5 places here, they can be confident of 2 and could even get 3 dependent of later choices distribution. That distribution would also determine who is elected to the other places, with the alternatives to Labour widely spread here. The Conservatives would probably get one. The Green Party might not be far away.
The Conservatives got much better results in my other constituency here - In Harrow East their candidate lost less than 2% of his 2019 vote; quite an achievement the collapse of his party elsewhere. The shared constituency with Hillingdon was also held, and though losing the seat recently vacated by Boris Johnson was an embarrassment, it was very close. The other two seats here were strongly Labour, including John O’Donnell’s over 50% share in Hayes and Harlington. It looks as if, even under STV, this would be a fight between the two main parties. At least 1, probably 2 MPs each with the fifth being very much up for grabs. With other parties FPTP vote here squeezed,, its hard to know who that would be.

No obvious Musician sprang to mind for the area and there may well be others, but John McVie, the Mac of Fleetwood Mac was born in Ealing
