STV for North London
This post is for ‘Outer North London’, The boroughs just to the south of my map, like Brent and Islington, will be covered on my post for Central London
Barnet and Finchley (to elect 4MPs, covering the current constituencies of Chipping Barnet; Finchley and Golders Green; Hendon; Hornsey and Friern Barnet)
Tottenham and Enfield (to elect 4 MPs, covering the current constituencies of Edmonton and Winchmore Hill; Enfield North; Southgate and Wood Green; Tottenham)
Geography
This area of suburbia is what many people see if they are on a train rushing Northwards. Like the last post, I’ve four named suburbs in the names, but here that doesn’t reflect the names of four London Boroughs. There are only 3 London boroughs covered here, and the name of one of them is absent from my naming. Tottenham and Finchley are not boroughs but are well known names of suburbs due to Football and Tube stations. Tottenham is part of Haringey, a borough name whose spelling its strangely different from the small area from which it (almost) takes its name. In the current Boundary Commission plan, the borough has been split many ways with constituencies shared with most neighbouring boroughs,
Of my two STV constituencies, one is basically the larger Barnet borough with the Hornsey area added from Haringey, and the well known Finchley name checked and then most of the other two boroughs here. The other is Enfield borough and the Tottenham part of Haringey
Politics
This whole area is coloured Red now though a look under the bonnet will show some interesting recent history. This would have been Margaret Thatcher’s constituency.
The East side is the most Labour, with Tottenham and Edmonton electing their candidates for years. Elsewhere is the constituency that Michael Portillo famously lost, though lines have been considerably redrawn since. On the west side, close to the Harrow seats the Tories held onto, are the Barnet and Hendon seats they only narrowly lost this time. The Lib Dems did hold a constituency in the south of this area between 2005-15, but their support dissipated before their stronger areas were redistributed.
On 2024 results, Labour would take 2 from each 4. The Conservatives would take one of them in Barnet and Finchley. The other three would be up for grabs.

There were two musical options for this area, and I’m going for the more recent over Chas and Dave
